Current Fire Situation: The strong winds predicted for yesterday did not materialize, and crews were able to make progress with fire line construction as well as conduct burn out operations on Eagle and Cedar fires. Also, smoke jumpers were successful anchoring the northern flank of the Buckhorn fire as well as an area near French Creek, both within the Trinity Alps Wilderness. Establishment of these anchor points will allow them to proceed with fire line construction today. Main concerns for containment of the fires within the complex are burning materials continuing to roll across containment lines and spotting outside fire lines.

Main Objectives Today: Eagle: Crews will continue burnout operations that were initiated yesterday, removing fuels that exist between the containment lines and the main fire. Cedar: Crews will continue holding established containment lines, patrolling the Highway 299 corridor and area east of Del Loma for spot fires, and preparing for burning operations on the southern flank of the fire. Buckhorn Fire: Existing lines will be held, and a crew of ten smoke jumpers will begin line construction along Brushy Ridge on the north flank and in the French Creek area along the south east flank within the Trinity Alps Wilderness. Zeigler: The fire will be monitored along the Trinity River. Ironside Fire: Continue to conduct mop up activities to ensure no hot spots remain adjacent to the fire perimeter. Carey Fire: Crews will continue to construct fire line using tactics to ensure wilderness characteristics are preserved.

Area Closures: The Shasta-Trinity National Forest has issued a new Closure Order for the Iron Complex area prohibiting public use of National Forest System lands south of Highway 299. A map and specific description of the closure is posted on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest webpage: www.fs.fed.us/r5/shastatrinity. County Road 402 (Denny Road) has been reopened. Forest Road 60 remains closed from Hyampom to Burnt Ranch. Evacuations: Portions of the Junction City area including Red Hill Road, Dutch Creek, Coopers Bar, Evans Bar and Soldiers Creek remain under mandatory evacuation. This evacuation was issued due to the limited ingress/egress in the area and the planned increase in fire operations. For a complete list of current evacuation notices please refer to the Trinity Country webpage at http://www.trinitycounty.org/ or call (530) 623-4708. Additional Fire Information: A recorded line for the Iron Complex is available at (530) 226-2500, press 2. For specific inquiries contact the Fire Information Center at (530) 226-2368.
