Iron Complex Fire Update 7-15-08
Incident: Iron Alps Complex Wildfire
Released: 7/15/2008
Incident Management Team. A transfer of command to Rocky Oplinger's California Type I National Incident
Management Team will occur tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. Fire Acres ContainmentCedar Fire 10,016 15% Eagle Fire 11,762 50% Zeigler Fire 1,999 90% Buckhorn Fire 6,598 40% Ironside Fire 12,720 92%Denny Fire 55 85% Within the Trinity Alps Wilderness Area (approximately 20 other fires of between 1 to 83 acres each have been contained). Granite Fire 542 80% Carey Fire 1,247 10% Rip Fire 3 100% Today's forecasted weather is very similar to the weather pattern that was in effect on the day that
the Eagle Fire made its big run to the outskirts of Junction City. Active fire behavior is expected, driven
by winds from the W at 10-15 mph with gusts of up to 25 mph on the ridgetops. This will cause an
increasing potential for long range spotting and group tree torching. Extremely steep and broken terrain
limits checking growth on all fires within the complex. The potential for undetected spot fires to develop is high.
Planned Actions: Cedar Fire: Construct indirect line on the south side to protect
Corral Bottom and high-voltage transmission line. Continue constructing, improving
and holding the west flank. Patrol for spot fires north of Hwy 299. Eagle Fire: Construct
and burnout indirect line on the east side of the fire from Big Creek to Hocker Meadow.
Construct contingency line around Big Bar on the south side of the Trinity River.
Zeigler Fire: Protect Gray's Ranch and Fisher Ranch. Buckhorn Fire: Use burnout to hold
fire at French Creek and continue burnout on the west side as needed. Ironside Fire: Mop up
line from Bell Ranch. Denny Fire: Construct direct line, fell snags and mop up hot spots.
The Granite, Carey and Rip fires in the Trinity Alps Wilderness Area are being managed as a
separate branch under wilderness management guidelines. Carey Fire: Continue to extinguish
hot spots and mop up along perimeter. Granite Fire: Unstaffed. Fire has been placed in monitor
status. Rip Fire: Fire has been placed in monitor status.
Hwy 299 is open, but subject to periodic closure from fire activity. Please call Cal Trans at
1-800-427-7623 for the most current road conditions.
