CUB COMPLEX

July 20, 2008 @ 8:00am

Location: 16 miles southwest of Chester, California

Onion Fire: 4,782 Acres - 100% Containment

Cub Fire: 14,936 Acres - 100% Containment

Total Estimated Complex Size: 19,718 Acres Total Estimated Complex Containment: 100%

Committed Resources: 488 total personnel including 10 Crews, 1 Helicopters, 20 Engines, 4 Dozers, 18 Water Tenders, and fire support personnel

Current Fire Situation: The Cub Complex includes both the Onion and Cub fires which are located in steep terrain. Control lines have been established around both the Onion and Cub fires. Firefighters expect no movement for either fire. Forest closures for the surrounding fire area remain in place.

Planned Actions: Firefighters continue to mop-up and patrol on all divisions of the Cub Complex. Fire suppression rehabilitation continues along the eastern fire perimeter and on the contingency lines and roads between Jonesville and the southern fire perimeter. Tonight, fire crews plan to complete fire suppression rehabilitation activities along Highway 32.

Evacuations and Closures: State Highway 32 is open through the fire area south towards Chico. The public is encouraged to use caution when traveling through the fire area, as firefighters, utility crews, and large equipment operators may be working on or near the highway and side roads. Call Cal Trans at 800-427-ROAD for the latest road status information.

All evacuation orders in the areas of Jonesville, Butte Meadows, and Lassen Boy Scout Camp have been lifted and all businesses are open.

The Lassen National Forest (NF) temporary Forest Closure Order remains in effect which includes a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail within the southern portion of the forest. The Potato Patch, Alder, and Elam campgrounds located south of Highway 36 in Deer Creek Canyon remain closed. All Lassen National Forest campgrounds and the Pacific Crest Trail north of Highway 36 remain open for forest visitors, campers, and hikers. Remarks: On Tuesday, July 22, Northern California Interagency Incident Management (NorCal) Team II will transfer the management of the Cub Complex to a smaller team organization. This will be the final Cub Complex update from NorCal Team II. Demobilization of resources that are no longer needed continues. Fire suppression rehabilitation will be ongoing for both the Onion and Cub fires.
