Amber Sunderland

Fire Information Officer - Mad Complex

Mad River District Office 707-574-6233

Eureka -.The Mad Complex consists of 35 fires scattered throughout the Mad River Ranger District of the Six Rivers National Forest. The fires started during a lightning storm on June 20, 2008. By July 7, 2008, thirty-two fires were 100 percent contained. The complex was 90 percent contained due to three fires in the wilderness area without confirmed locations that are uncontained. Firefighters estimate the complex will be contained by July 10, 2008.

Monday, the Alaska Type 3 Team began transitioning with Incident Commander Tom Liba. The Team will support and assist the incident in closing out the fires. Local personnel have worked tirelessly to secure the multiple fires on the District and have made excellent progress.

Today a Red Flag Warning has been issued for high temperatures, low relative humidity, and strong winds which will test existing control lines. Firefighters will continue to mop-up and patrol 300 feet inside containment lines
