Trigo Fire News Release

Progress Bulletin 5.7.2008 05:30pm

Incident: Trigo Fire Wildfire
Released: 5/7/2008

Fire suppression forces on large fires such as the Trigo utilize layers of weather information. In addition to other sources of information, the Incident Meteorologist uses data from four Remote Automated Weather Stations (RAWS) positioned around the fire.

Weather on the Trigo Fire is approaching Red Flag conditions. The wind is gusting to thirty-eight miles per hour. Depending on elevation, temperatures range from sixty to seventy degrees and relative humidity is in the mid to upper teens.

Capilla Peak, the highest point of the fire, has an elevation of 9,375 feet. The lowest point of the fire is about 3,000 feet lower.

Red Flag conditions are defined by a 75% probability of sustained winds in excess of twenty miles per hour or gusts over thirty-five miles per hour with relative humidity less than fifteen percent, lasting for more than three hours.

A Fire Weather Warning indicates a 50% probability of the same conditions.

The Trigo Fire is expecting a Fire Weather Watch for tomorrow.

The fire has not grown in size in for four days. In the face of unfavorable weather conditions, fire lines continue to hold.
