Evacuation Level Reduced for Black Butte Ranch Residents
The evacuation level for residents of Black Butte Ranch has been lowered to Level 1 at 1800 hours today. Residents should continue to have plans for special needs and pet and livestock care in the event a fire event should occur. Residents are further advised to post contact information in a visible place if they are absent from their home for more than a short period. The reduction in the evacuation level has been determined by Black Butte Ranch Police and Fire Departments in conjunction with the Central Oregon Incident Management. The GW Fire is currently at 60% containment. The public will continue to see smoke until a season ending event. "There's going to be smoke from this fire for weeks ahead." said Mark Rapp, Incident Commander of the Central Oregon Incident Management Team. Islands of unburned fuels will continue to ignite as the fire spreads below the ground through smoldering and creeping. As fall weather approaches with cooler temperatures at night, morning inversions can be expected by communities around the GW Fire.
