Evacuation of Black Butte Ranch was successfully completed this afternoon. A Level 3 Evacuation Notice was given for an orderly evacuation of Black Butte Ranch at 2:30 pm today. The decision to evacuate was made due to the active fire behavior and for public safety.
The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue was responsible for the evacuation with assistance from the Black Butte Ranch Fire Department and the Black Butte Police Department.
The American Red Cross established an Evacuation Shelter at the Sisters Community Church at 1300 West McKenzie Highway in Sisters.
A Community Meeting has been scheduled for tomorrow at 1 pm at the American Red Cross Evacuation Shelter. The meeting is open to the public.
The fire moved in the northeastly direction pushed by winds which prompted the decision to evacuate of Black Butte Ranch for public safety. Once the winds subside for this evening, night operations plan to directly attack the fire with eight dozers, five hand crews, and five engines to stop the fire perimeter growth. Approximately 24 engines from several Central Oregon Fire Departments are inside Black Butte Ranch to protect homes.
