Incident: Cascade Complex Wildland Fire
Released: 8/12/2007
Cascade Complex
Public Advisory:
Potential Loss of Power to Idaho Power Customers
August 11, 2007
4:00 PM
Fire crews are initiating burnout operations on the North Fork Fire of the Cascade Complex to protect structures near Warm Lake, the Incident Command Post (ICP) at Knox Ranch, and to secure the east flank of the North Fork Fire. A "burnout" is intentionally setting a fire to consume fuels in front of the main fire. This burnout operation is expected to last several days. Subject to favorable conditions, the goal today is to burnout the area between Six-Bit Creek and the Warm Lake Road Bridge at the South Fork Salmon River.
Power lines located on the Warm Lake Road that affect Idaho Power Company customers between Scott Valley and Yellow Pine may be temporarily shut down during burnout operations. This includes the Warm Lake area. Power outages may be intermittent, short, or long-term in duration beginning some time Sunday, August 12. The Great Basin Incident Management Team will attempt to limit these outages to as short durations as possible. However, customers should take appropriate measures to prepare themselves in the unlikely event of possible long-term outages. The intent is to minimize any adverse impacts to Idaho Power customers, however, firefighter safety and operational considerations will determine actual power outages.
