Extreme Fire Conditions Dictate Closure of Roads
Boise, ID - At an emergency meeting of the Valley County Board of Commissioners on Thursday, August 2, 2007, at noon, it was decided to close the South Fork of the Salmon River drainage to public access. Warm Lake Road #22 will be closed at the Boise National Forest boundary, to all public ingress, as well as Lick Creek Road #48. The Forest boundary is approximately 8 miles northeast of the intersection of Warm Lake Highway and State Highway 55. Access into the drainage via Clear Creek Road thru Railroad Pass is also prohibited. Johnson Creek Road (#413) is also closed.
This decision by the authority of the Valley County Sheriff was reached after consultation with representatives of the Payette and Boise Forests, as well as fire personnel, and was adopted by motion of Chairman Jerry Winkle and unanimous support of County Commissioners Frank Eld and Gordon Cruickshank.
For those currently in Yellow Pine, the Harmonica Festival will take place. Full-time residents of Yellow Pine may leave and return only with proof of residency. For more information, contact the Valley County Sheriff's Office at 208-382-7150.
The information received from fire crews included information that the fire conditions are extreme, the existing fires are unpredictable and the lives of those transiting back country roads are in imminent danger should the fires spread rapidly and unexpectedly. These restrictions will be lifted as soon as conditions permit.
