Contact: Kent Fuellenbach (208)756-5145, e-mail kfuellenbach@fs.fed.us
The area west of the Middle Fork River Corridor between Prospect Creek and Indian Creek has been closed due to the fire activity on the Sandy and Riordan fires. The fires are burning in the headwaters of Pistol Creek and Indian Creek along the western boundary of the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness. The closure is necessary to provide protection to forest visitors from current fire safety hazards. The Middle Fork River and the parallel trail #001 remain open.
The closure includes the area bounded on the northwest by the Mule Hill and Indian Creek trails (both closed), on the east and southeast by the Middle Fork of the Salmon River Corridor Administrative Boundary, on the southwest by the Prospect Creek and Morehead Mountain trails (both closed), and on the west and north by trails and roads just outside the boundary of the Wilderness. The closure includes all the trails within the area and the Pistol Ridge Road #550 and spur roads connected to it. The closure does not include the Middle Fork of the Salmon River or the Middle Fork Trail #001 which remain open.
