The Ball Point Fire is 100% contained. A fire season ending event expected in the form of autumn rain is necessary to officially declare the fire controlled. The interior of the fire is expected to continue to smolder with occasional flare ups during the heat of the day. The fire continues to be monitored with action taken as necessary.
Effective August 4, all roads closed by the Ball Point Fire will be re-opened. Badger Lake will also be opened for public use on August 4. However, the entire Ball Point Fire area remains closed to public access until further notice. The following trails also remain closed until further notice: Little Badger Trail #469, Tygh Creek Trail #460, and the School Canyon Trail #468.

A lightning storm ignited the Ball Point Fire the evening of July 12th. Smoke jumpers initial attacked the fire the morning of July 13th and fought fire all day. Retardant drops were repeatedly on the first day of initial attack to assist the firefighters in their efforts. A medium helicopter also made bucket water drops to cool the spread of the fire. Late in the afternoon on the 13th, with the onset of higher winds and temperature, the fire began spotting approimately 1/4 mile ahead. The Central Oregon Incident Management Team was ordered and assumed operational management of the fire on June 15th. A Type III Incident Management Team assumed management of the fire on July 23.
