The Deluz Fire began on Saturday October 5 2013 at just before 1:00pm. It spread rapidly due to strong winds and hot temperature as it threatened base housing with over 300 residents and the Naval Hospital. Evacuations were ordered for the base housing and the hospital resulting in 30 patients being transferred out of the hospital to nearby medical facilities. On Sunday October 6th Southern California Interagency Incident Management Team 1 assumed command of the fire that was about 2 000 acres with 15% containment. Later that evening at 5:00 pm the evacuations were lifted for base housing and the hospital. Mutltiple agencies from federal state and local fire agencies as well as military personnel assisted with the incident. Full containment will occur October 9 2013 at 6:00 pm instead of Monday October 8 2013. Rain is expected over ther fire within the next 48 hours. All cooperating agencies are off the fire and Camp Pendelton Fire Department will resume command as of 6:00 pm Tuesday October 8th.
