The Sierra Fire started Tuesday afternoon September 24th northwest of Interstate 15 in the Cajon Pass Area. The fire started near the Sycamore Flats area north of Glen Helen Parkway and quickly burned 200 acres. It is now 100% contained.
Air tankers dropped fire retardant to slow the spread of the fire Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters were aided by water-dropping helicopters and they were able to stop the fire from spreading towards homes along Glen Helen Road which were under a mandatory evacuation. Mandatory Evacuations became voluntary at midnight Wednesday.
The fire was managed under a unified command between the San Bernardino County Fire Department and the San Bernardino National Forest through Tuesday evening.
