Firefighters, assisted by 3 air tankers, kept the Chance fire in check at just under 4 acres (3.6). The fire is located 3.5 air miles west of Crystal Peak, northeast of Frenchman Lake. The fire is burning within fire lines.
Much of the smoke in the corridor and throughout Plumas and neighboring counties is from the Rim Fire in the southern Sierra.
Firefighting resources are stretched because of fires in neighboring areas due to the same thunderstorm activity. More fire starts are anticipated as the effects of thunderstorm moisture dissipates.
