Lost Lake Trail (Trail #617) is closed. The rest of the area is now open.
The Lost Lake Fire was reported Friday August 16 on the Clarks Fork Ranger District approximately one mile from the Montana border. It was ignited by lightning a week or so prior but cool temperatures and precipitation kept it in check until it became active with warmer dryer weather conditions. Steep terrain and lack of adequate escape routes safety zones or evacuation sites prevented firefighters from safely engaging the fire.
Fire size remains at 115 acres. The fire has been receiving precipitation and is not expected to grow. Snow is forecast this week for the fire area.
