The Lave Fire is north of Christmas Valley and northeast of Fort Rock. It was ignited by lightning and detected on July 23. Improved burning conditions yesterday assisted fire crews with building a fire perimeter along a portion of the lava flow border. The Lava Fire has now reached 10,500 acres and is 30% contained within the wilderness study area (WSA).

The strategy planned is to continue firing along the perimeter until there is a line around the entire fire. This will decrease the possibility of the fire moving out of the lava flow area located in a wilderness study area managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Lakeview District and reduces risk to fire fighters.

Roads reopened: Sink Road/County Road 5-12B from Derricks Cave Road to the Roth Corner and BLM road 610-9C from Green Mountain to the 5-12B.
