Incident Overview

The T.R.E. (Topaz Ranch Estates) Fire started at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22. The fire is burning in cheat grass, sagebrush and pinyon pine/juniper on mostly BLM public lands, one mile north of Nevada State Route 208 and three miles east of U.S. Highway 395 near Topaz Lake (about 60 miles south of Reno, Nevada). Two residences and seventeen outbuildings were destroyed early in the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Cooler weather and precipitation has helped the crews to reach full containment of the fire today. Firefighters have focused on 400 feet of interior mop up on the fire. The fire will be handed off to the local Carson City BLM District tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. A small crew will remain at the fire to rehabilitate the dozer line and re-establish the natural resources. The fire will be monitored over the next few days to ensure that the fire perimiter remains extinguished. Smoke may be visible from the fire area, as islands of green fuels may continue to burn out.

This will be the final report on the T.R.E fire.
