Summary

The Sawooth Zone is part of the Sawtooth-Millard-Heart Complex. This information is only about the Sawtooth zone of the fire. Milard Complex Fire Information. The western perimeter of the fire is a priority. The fire has reached the upper reaches of the terrain and has slowed down. The fire has now burned 485 acres into a portion of the San Bernardino Nat'l Forest. Extremely steep rocky terrain continues to make access difficult as the fire moves west. Extreme heat and potential erratic winds from thunder cells continue over the fire area. The fires have increased the chance of flash floods, mud and debris flows from thunderstorms. Significant demobilization of resources is ongoing. An Evacuation Center has been set up at the Yucca Valley High School, 7600 Sage Ave. The Big Bear Elementary School Evacuation Center has been closed.

Fire Behavior

Very little fire activity was observed today with the higher humidity's across the area.

Significant Events

Crews were successful in completing direct line and are tied in, allowing for 100% containment to be declared as of 1800 hrs. today. Close coordination between the Sawtooth, Heart, and Millard Zones continues to be effective. Resource and intelligence sharing is occurring. The adjoining line on the Heart and Millard Zones remain open.

Outlook

Planned Actions

Direct line improvement along with mop-up and patrol operations will continue in all areas. Fire suppression repair efforts are well underway and will continue throughout the period. Crews will be inserted into Divisions S and T by helicopter.

Projected Movement

The western perimeter of the fire is the priority. The fire has now burned into a portion of the San Bernardino Nat'l Forest (485 acres). Extremely steep rocky terrain had made access difficult requiring helicopters for transport to fire line. The fire has reached the upper reaches of the terrain and has slowed down. Fire spread has slowed from higher humidities. Increased erratic winds are possible from approaching monsoonal system. Seventy percent (70%) chance of precipitation forecasted.

The Sawtooth Zone is part of the Sawtooth-Millard-Heart Complex. This 209 only contains Sawtooth Zone information. The Sawtooth Zone is under a Unified Command consisting of the California Department of Forestry and the United States Forest Service. The evacuation declaration for the Rim Rock & Burns Canyon areas is still in effect and closed to the general public. Evacuation orders will be evaluated today. Significant demob continues to occur today. Significant increase in relative humidity today.
