Incident Overview

In a pine forest, a fire spreads from left to right, burning in pine needles on the ground. Some of the flames are up to 6 feet high as it burns bushes.  On the right stands a firefighter in yellow shirt and whit ehard hat, taking stock of the situation.

At approximately 7:00 AM on January 4, 2012, Cumberland Island National Seashore fire management officials were notified by Camden County 911 of visible smoke in the wilderness. Firefighters found a small fire burning in the Willow Pond area. Firefighting crews including National Park Service, Camden County Fire and Rescue and Georgia Forestry responded quickly to contain and monitor the fire. PatRick, a contract hand crew, arrived on Friday the 6th and completed a containment line around the fire.

Significant Events

Three person crew from Everglades was released after MLK Jr. holiday weekend. The Park continues to monitor the area daily with one firefighter. There is still smoldering fire activity which is putting out light smoke.
