Incident Overview
The Copper Mountain Fire was caused by lightning on August 25. The 1067 acre fire, located 27 miles southwest of Philipsburg, MT in the Anaconda Pintler Wilderness, is being managed to improve vegetation diversity and wildlife habitat. As always the first concern is for public and firefighter safety.
This fire has been burning within the existing perimeter. The fire is unstaffed at this time but being monitored on a regular basis. Area closures for this fire area have been rescinded. The Skalkaho Pass Highway (State Highway 38) from mile post 14 to mile post 30 remains closed.
Recreationists are reminded to be vigilant if traveling the the fire area and to be sure that their fires are completely extinguished.
