The White Lightning Complex consists of several lightning-caused fires on the Warm Springs Reservation 30 miles north-northwest of Madras, Oregon. The projected final size of the complex is 33,732 acres. The fires are burning in dry grass, sage, juniper and pockets of pine and oak in rocky, rugged terrain.

The White Lightning Complex is being managed by a Type 3 fire team from the Warm Springs Fire Management (BIA). The Incident Command Post is located at the Fire Management Complex in Warm Springs.

Fire Behavior

Some smokes are visible in Div E. Fire activity remains low as reduced daytime temperatures coupled with partly cloudy skys have limited daytime drying of fuels.

Significant Events

At 0600 on Friday, August 27th all of the Deschutes River was reopened to recreation. This includes reopening the previously closed section between Trout Creek and Harpham Flats. Crews continue to patrol fire lines, map areas for rehabilitation, and mop in 300 feet to meet turn back standards. Night shift operations have been suspended. More resources are being demobilized in anticipation of turning the fire back to the district on 8/28/10 at 0700 hours.
