Oak Flat Fire Update:

Grants Pass, OR - The cooler weather on Monday gave firefighters a little break as the fire settled down some. However, the humidity was lower yesterday and there was some fire activity in the interior. All lines held during the day. The forecast for today is for temperatures to be somewhat cooler than yesterday and humidity up to 25% higher. Fire spread rate is expected to be low. Measurable precipitation is expected Tuesday afternoon, Tuesday night and Wednesday.

The ORCA Type 2 Incident Management Team will transition the fire to a Type 3 organization at 6:00 P.M. Fire containment is anticipated to be 100% at that time. The Type 3 team will be made up of mostly local resources. Two heavy-lift helicopters are expected to assist firefighters with aerial water drops today, with one being released from the fire by end of shift.

Six 20-person hand crews are still assigned to the fire to help with mop-up. Firefighting equipment that was used on the fire is being gathered up and returned to base camp for cleaning and reuse. Resources are being released as needs diminish on the Oak Flat Fire and are being made available for reassignment to other fires.

Sam Brown Campground, the 2500 road (Taylor Creek Road), the 2402 road and all roads in the closure area remain closed to all but fire traffic.
