Incident Overview
On August 2, 2010 at 11:44 am, the Rooster Rock Fire was reported to Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center. The fire started near Forest Road 16 and Whychus Creek on the Sisters Ranger District, Deschutes National Forest.
The cause is under investigation. Fire suppression activities involve both private (predominantly) and National Forest lands. As a result, development of strategy and tactics for suppression of this fire activities are being done under joint delegated authority from the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) and the Deschutes National Forest.

| Remarks | USFS acres burned 1,355. Private acres burned, 4,779. Transfer of command to a Type 3 organization is planned for 8/10/2010 at 0600. Dispersed smoke will be visible over the next several weeks as a result of small concentrations of fuels burning inside the overall fire perimeter. Crews will continue to look for and extinguish hotspots found inside the fire lines over the next week. Patrols of the fire will last until later in the fall. |
