The Oden Road Fire is located approximately 5 miles west of Okanogan, Washington. It was first reported on Friday August 21st just after 3:00 in the afternoon, and the cause has been determined to be lightning. Strong gusty winds that afternoon resulted in rapid fire growth despite excellent responses by local resources. As of Thursday morning, the Level 1 evacuation Alert has been removed from the surrounding residences; the threat of fire activity is no longer a concern. Highway 20 is open to through traffic between Twisp and Okanogan. There is a 35 mph speed limit through the fire area. The reduced acreage is due to more accurate mapping of the fire perimeter using GPS equipment.

Significant Events

Level 2 Evacuation has been lifted. Level 1 Evacuation is in effect for portions of the Chiliwist Community. Evaluations are on going to lift the Evacuation Notice.

Planned Actions

Acreage is reduced due to more accurate mapping of fire perimeter using GPS equipment. Crews are working to extinguish hot spots along the fire perimeter and around structure.

Remarks

State Route 20 is open with a 35 mph speed limit restriction. Secondary roads into the fire on WA DNR managed lands are closed to non fire traffic. Structure Protection Division is doing assessment of destroyed and damaged structures.
