The Oden Road Fire is located approximately 5 miles west of Okanogan, Washington. It was first reported on Friday August 21st just after 3:00 in the afternoon, and the cause has been determined to be lightning. Strong gusty winds that afternoon resulted in rapid fire growth despite excellent responses by local resources. As of Thursday morning, the Level 1 evacuation Alert has been removed from the surrounding residences; the threat of fire activity is no longer a concern. Highway 20 is open to through traffic between Twisp and Okanogan. There is a 35 mph speed limit through the fire area. The reduced acreage is due to more accurate mapping of the fire perimeter using GPS equipment.
