Incident Overview
On Saturday evening, August 1, widespread heavy thundstorms brought nearly 1,800 lightning strikes in northeastern California which resulted in 43 reported fires on the Lassen National Forest.
On Monday August 10, Bovey's Type 3 Incident Management Team assumed command of the Hat Creek Complex and will continue suppression and repair operations throughout the week. In addition to 3 large fires, the complex now includes an additional 34 smaller fires which were previously reported as the Hat Creek District LCA. The three large fires are the Sugarloaf Fire, Brown Fire, and the Butte Fire. All of the fires are on the Hat Creek Ranger District. At 48 acres, the Butte Fire is 100% contained while the Brown Fire is 100% contained at 1,865 acres, and the Sugarloaf Fire is 9,356, 90% contained and is predicted to be 100% contained by August 12.
State Route Highway 89 from State Route 299 to State Route 44, in Shasta County, is now open to all traffic.
State Route Highway 44 from State Route 89, in Shasta County, to State Route 36 in Lassen County is also open to all traffic.
The Pacific Crest Trail is closed between Twin Bridges and Baum Lake due to fire activity in the area. For current trail conditions, go to http://www.pcta.org/.

| Significant Events | LIFTED EVACUATIONS: The Rancheria RV Park, and Old Station community evacuations have been lifted. --- OPENINGS: All campgrounds in the Hat Creek Recreation Area are currently open. CLOSURE OF A PORTION OF PACIFIC CREST TRAIL: The Pacific Crest Trail is closed between Twin Bridges and Baum Lake due to fire activity in the area. For current trail conditions, go to www.pcta.org. --- All traffic closures that were in place as a result of the Sugarloaf and Brown Fires have been lifted: State Route 89 from State Route 299 to State Route 44, in Shasta County, is now OPEN to all traffic. State Route 44 from State Route 89, in Shasta County, to State Route 36 in Lassen County is also OPEN to all traffic. Although the roads in the area are open, motorists are advised to use extreme caution as fire crews are still working in the area. Additionally, motorists will see some residual smoldering and smoke when driving through the fire area. --- SERVICE RESTORATION: All electric power and telephone services have been restored to the Hat Creek and Old Station communities. |
