The lightning-caused Pioneer Fire, which began May 30 near Globe Arizona, is estimated at 1,375 acres and continues to burn in ponderosa pine, manzanita, and oak brush vegetation in steep, rough terrain. The fire, now 45-percent contained, is located 8 miles southeast of Globe, Arizona in Pioneer Pass and west of Highway 77. Management of the fire transferred from the Arizona Central West Zone Incident Management Team to a local Type 3 incident organization from the Tonto National Forest at 6 p.m. yesterday (Sat., June 13). Forest firefighters continue to mop up, monitor and secure the perimeter, and complete suppression rehabilitation work. Smoke from the fire my be visible over the next several days.

Significant Events

The fire, located approximately eight miles south of Globe, Ariz., is now 45 percent contained. Management of the Pioneer fire operations was transferred from the Arizona Central West Zone Incident Management Team to a Tonto National Forest Type 3 organization yesterday evening at 6 pm.
