Detected 5/29/2009, located 24 miles north of Mimbres, NM. The Diamond fire perimeter is now 22,000 acres, with only interior smokes showing. Although the fire did receive rain showers last week, it continues to show low to moderate fire behavior as it burns through heavy ground fuels, including dead and down logs. Smoke from the Diamond fire can be seen from Gila Center and areas in and around Mimbres Valley. Regular monitoring is ongoing.
Due to heavy rains the last few days, FOREST ROAD 150 near Rocky Canyon is IMPASSABLE and will be CLOSED unitl further notice.
