Incident Overview

The Kemmerer Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest is managing the Shingle Mill Fire to improve the vegetation and Forest health on the District. The Shingle Mill fire is burning in the upper portion of Shingle Mill Creek in the Hams Fork drainage approximately 1 mile southeast of the Elk Guard Station. The fire started from a lightning strike that likely occurred Thursday, September 11 when a weather event moved through the area. There are no structures threatened by the fire.

The fire has moved out of old logging slash into natural fuels with standing dead.

Fire behavior is minimal due to the moisture we received over the weekend. Fire activity is mimimal but hazards still exist in and near the fire area.

Fire Managers will continue monitoring the fire on the ground and by air as conditions warrant.

Fire Managers will continue to work with the local Ranger District personnel.

The fire has had no new growth.

Remarks

Closures are no longer in effect at this time for the Shingle Mill Fire. Forest users are urged to use extreme caution while hunting in the vicinity of the fire, beware of the following hazards: falling snags and trees, rolling rocks and logs, and hot spots that may have caused sink holes. Caution signs along with a map of the fire perimeter are posted at access points into the area . Visitors should contact the Kemmerer Ranger District for updated information. Fire Danger Rating on the Bridger-Teton National Forest is low.
