The Cabin Creek Fire and the Rush Creek fires are burning in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. Cabin Creek is located 33 air mile N/NE of McCall, where the fire is currently burning between just west of Cave Creek (west of Vinegar Hill) and west of Horse Mtn. Cabin Creek fire is currently 4,494 acres as determined from last night's Infrared Flight. The fire was human caused and the aggressively fought, but escaped initial attack. Resources were diverted to the Mesa Fire where homes were threatened. Trails and back country airstrips are open. The public is encouraged to use the Big Creek airstrip if flying into the back country and to stay N/NW of the Cabin Creek Area. Although Taylor Ranch is not immediately threatened, structure protection equipment has been deployed as a precaution. Fire management specialists from neighboring forests are assisting the Payette National Forest to develop a long term strategy.
