Incident Overview

The Sherwin Fire started Sunday August 3 at 11:45 am. It is located two miles south of the Town of Mammoth Lakes. The fire has burned 347 acres. The fire was human caused and is still under investigation. Helicopters are assisting handcrews and engines in the suppression of the Sherwin Fire. As of 0600 Friday August 8 the fire is at 88% percent containment.

Evacuations remain in effect for the Cherwin Creek Campground, Laurel Springs Camp, and the YCMA camp. Sherwin Creek Road is closed from Old Mammoth Road to Laural Creek truck Trail. Wilderness Trailheads at Sherwin Lakes and Valentine Lake remain cloxed. No wilderness permits are being issued for these trailhead.
