Tumble Creek Wildland Fire

Summary

The Tumble Creek fire started the afternoon of August 1, 2008. It's location is in the West Fork of the Stillwater River drainage approximately 8 miles west of Woodbine Campground, and one mile south of the Absaroka/Beartooth Wilderness boundary.

Tom Heintz's Type 2 Northern Rockies Incident Management Team has been assigned to manage the fire and assumed command at 6:00 a.m. on August 4.

The road closures for Picket Pin Road #2140 and Trail #72 will be lifted at 2100 tonight, August 7th. Per revised area closure #08-08-02-14. The West Fork of Stillwater Road, FS road #846 and Trails #'s 20 and 90 as well as the Initial Creek Campground remain closed.

The Woodbine campground and trail #24 are OPEN.

Stillwater county has initiated Stage One fire Restrictions.

Command of the fire will transition from Heintz's Type 2 team to the Custer National Forest at 0600 on August 10th.

Fire Behavior

Fire behavior consisted mainly of smoldering from small pockets of fuels in the interior of the fire. The fire received precipitation yesterday.

Significant Events

The fire was not staffed but patrolled by air. An infrared report indicated a few hot spots on the fire. Demobilization of supplies and personnel continued throughout the day.
