The Green Lake Fire is located approximately 4 miles northwest of Okanogan, WA. It started on Thursday, July 31st, at approximately 5:00 pm; the cause is under investigation. Strong gusty winds up to 25 miles per hour drove the fire for the first 24 hours. Local initial attack resources did an excellent job of coordinating to ensure the safety of firefighters and the public. Since Friday evening, winds have calmed and fire crews have made significant progress on containment objectives.

Fire Behavior

Consumption of stump holes and large fuels on one 30-acre parcel of timber, well inside the perimeter, that was burned out by the fireline resources 2 days ago. There was no torching or spotting. The rest of the fire's interior has isolated hotspots and stump holes, mostly in the timbered portions of the fire. Grass and brush areas were inactive with very few hotspots located.

Significant Events

Lifting of the Level 1 evacuation notification at the end of shift today. We will recommend the removal of the road closure on the Gree Lake Road at the same time. Command will be transitioned to a Type 4 organization tomorrow, August 7th, at 0600.

Burned acres by ownership: WA DNR 18.4; WA FWS 754.6; BLM 601.8; Private 1239.2. Plan to transition to a Type 4 organization on Thursday 8/7/08. Resources remaining after transition will be 1 water tender, 1 strike team of engines, 1 Type 2 handcrew and 1 ICT 4.
