Today's Update: Friday, observed fire behavior on the Panther and North Ukonom Fires was moderate with isolated torching. All fire growth occurred in the wilderness. Firefighters began construction on a segment of line in the wilderness south of Ukonom Lake to check the eastward progression of the fire. Crews continued to make good progress repairing fireline elsewhere outside of the wilderness.

Today, crews will continue the line construction in the wilderness. Other crews will repair, mop up and patrol fireline on the rest of the fire.

Containment objectives have been met on the fire outside of the wilderness area. Minimal suppression action is being taken on the fire in the wilderness area. The fires will continue to burn naturally and will be closely monitored by firefighters who will take appropriate suppression action if necessary.

This is a map showing the fires. The black lines are areas that are contained. The red lines are areas where the fire is being allowed to burn into the Marble Mountain Wilderness.
