What's been happening: A fire was started approx 12 miles east of Tonasket on Wednesday the 9th around 1530. A regional interagency management team (Central Washington Incident Management Team) took over the incident on July 11 at 6:00 am. Kudos to the local incident management team for doing an outstanding job fighting this difficult fire. Patrol and mop up continues. A prescibed burn in 2000 in section 17 (Cayuse horse pasture area) on National Forest land significantly slowed fire spread allowing fire crews to contain the fire in that area more quickly.
At 6:00 A.M. on Thursday the 17th of July, the fire management team will transition to a local team. Future Information requests concerning National Forest Lands should be directed to Tonasket Ranger District at (509) 486-2186 and those involving state protected lands should be directed to Tim Vugteveen, Highlands District Manager at (509) 675-0490 (cell). Inciweb will NOT be maintained after the transition.
