SKOOKUM 151 COMPLEX

July 5, 2008 Update

The Central Oregon Incident Management Team (COIMT) will transition the Complex back to the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs (CTWS) at 0600 hrs tomorrow. This will be the last update from COIMT on this Complex.

FIRE ACTIVITY SUMMARY: The J-151 Fire remains at 113 acres. Yesterday's fire activity included smoldering, creeping, and backing in unburned islands of fuel. Crews were mopping-up hot spots in accordance to standards established by the CTWS. The Skookum Creek Fire had minimal activity and remains at 450 acres. Mop-up also continued to meet the mop-up standards. Personnel identified as excess to operational needs were demobilized or reassigned to other incidents.

TODAY'S PLANNED ACTIONS: Crews will continue with mop-up operations on both the J-151 and the Skookum Fires. The Skookum Creek Fire is expected to meet the 100% mop-up standard by end of shift today. Established control lines will continue to be rehabilitated. Identified excess equipment will be flown back to the incident command post (ICP) via helicopter. An initial attack force will also be available to assist with any new fire starts identified on the reservation.

FIRE CAMP/HELIBASE LOCATION: The ICP is located at the Warm Springs rodeo grounds with the helibase near the Agency fire management compound.

WEATHER: Seasonal temperatures are expected today and tomorrow over the fire area. A stable air mass will persist throughout the upcoming week with a gradual warming and drying trend. Today's forecast calls for mostly sunny. High temperatures are predicted to be 74-79 degrees in the valleys and 65-71 degrees on the ridges. Minimum relative humidity of 33-44% is expected in the valleys and 45-57% on the ridges. Winds will be west 11-14 mph.

The Cove Palisades State Park, Kah-Nee-Ta Resort, Madras, and Warm Springs are unaffected by the fire and open for business.

The fire danger on the reservation remains at a 'VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER LEVEL' designation. This means that all fire permits will be invalid on the reservation and no burning will be permitted; except ceremonial burning. Individuals using approved fireworks during the holiday are to use extreme caution due to the high fire danger.

Highway 26 and reservation highway 3 to Kah-Nee-Ta will be congested due to high fire and holiday traffic. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and use care in driving through the area.
