Summary

The Canyon Complex is 97% contained and only the Belden Fire remains uncontained due to the inability to safely approach the open line. Small isolated areas of heat remain within the fireline and will continue to put up occasional columns of smoke throughout the remainder of the summer/fall. On 8/17/08 a type 3 team led by Randy Jennings and Tyler Otterson began management of the Canyon Complex.

Fuels Involved

Fuels involved are timber stands, areas of logging slash, dormant and young brush and grass.

Fire Behavior

Little or no fire spread. Low fire behavior backing downhill, smoldering, and creeping; interior islands continue to burn.

Significant Events

Resources are fully engaged in rehab activities. North Branch Rehab: 98% completed. South Branch Rehab: 98% completed. Mop-up and patrol activities continue in areas with heat. Due to unsafe conditions DIVS U and V continue to be closely monitored.

Outlook

Planned Actions

In the northwest side of the complex: patrol and monitor; monitor French Bear and Belden Fires by air. Continue suppression rehab activities. In the southeast side of the complex: Patrol and monitor the southerly portion. Continue rehab activities in the central and northern portions. The southeastern end will be staffed by CALFIRE resources.

Growth Potential

The growth potential for fires in the complex is considered medium.

Terrain Difficulty

The terrain is rugged and isolated and is considered extreme.

Remarks

Beldon Fire 474 acres, 70% contained. Beldon Fire is the primary reason the complex remains at 97 percent overall containment.
