Incident Overview

The Mad Complex consists of 35 fires scattered throughout the Mad River Ranger District of the Six Rivers National Forest. The fires started during a lightning storm on June 20, 2008. By July 7, 2008, thirty-two fires were 100 percent contained. The complex is now 100% contained.

Timber (grass and understory) Fuels vary from open grass glads to timber with dead and down litter with pockets of brush.

Fire Behavior

Pockets of unburned fuel with moderate intensity, otherwise creeping.

Significant Events

Holding containment lines and mopping up 300 ft. Contained fires will be patrolled and fires close to Six Rivers boundaries will be monitored. Rehab. of small fires has begun. Suppression actions are being taken on three fires. Actively patrolling 34 fires. Approximately 20 acres of the Trough Fire from the Lime Complex is burning on Six Rivers National Forest and may compromise suppression efforts.

One hundred forty Lime Complex personnel are eating and sleeping at the Mad Complex Base. The Mad River community continues to show a vested interest in the fire suppression activities. Continuing to downsize incident to match local and regional needs. Three reported wilderness fires have not been located and the area will be monitored. Fires 100% contained: Bonanza 1370 acres, Travis 1700 acres, Swim 210 acres, Water Spout I 137 acres (combined with Spring and Creek fires), Nielson 100 acres, Van Horn 66 acres, Lost Creek 50 acres, Water Spout II 5 acres, Hayden 3 acres, Salt .4 acre. Fires that are controlled: Lassic 21.6 acres, Long 11.3 acres, Fuels 9 acres, Reiss 6 acres, North 5.4 acres, Black 5 acres, Haymen 3 acres, Van Duzen II .10 acre, Rabbit 1 acre, Van Duzen .25 acre, Mad .5 acre, Crooks .25 acre, Lookout .25 acre, Pollard .2 acre, Dutch .10 acre, Trout .10 acre, Jones .10 acre, Hollie .10 acre. The following fires have not been located: Packwood-unknown-acreage 0% contained, Pepper-unknown acreage 0% contained, Shannon-unknown acreage 0% contained.
