Wellpinit Complex Wildland Fire

Summary

This is the last update from this fire. We would like to thank the Wellpinit community for their help and support during this incident. It's been great, and much appreciated.

This fire is 95% contained. 100% containment is expected by 6 PM tonight. The level of containment is the level of confidence of the fire managers that the fires will stay within control lines and not grow under current conditions. All personnel and equipment are expected to be released Saturday morning.

Several infra-red heat seeking device will be used on the fires today to detect hot spots so they can be extinguished.

This complex consists of 4 wildfires. Benjamin Lake, and Indian Action near Wellpinit, and the Maggie Shoup and Big Miller fires west of Wellpinit along the Columbia and Spokane Rivers. Maggie Shoup is the largest at 645 acres. There is a residence within ½ mile of the Big Miller fire. None of these fires are the result of controlled prescription fires that were set earlier in the month.

Washington Interagency Incident Management Team 3 is managing the fire, allowing local firefighting forces to resume normal duties. Base camp is set up at the Pow Wow Grounds in Wellpinit.

Weather: Cloudy, rain showers likely throughout the day. Max temperature 61-67 valleys, 51-61 mountains. Minimum humidity 45-60. Winds west 7-11 mph.

Fire Behavior

Very light activity with occasional smokes from duff and stump sources.

Significant Events

Benjamin Lake and Indian Action fires were declared contained. Mop up is nearly complete on the Big Miller and Maggie Shoupes fires. Line rehab progressing on all fires. One sot fire was found from a previous burn near, but not asociated with the Big Miller fire.
