The Sage Fire, which burned in Big Pine Canyon, is 100% contained by constructed line. The Seven Oak Fire, which burned west of Independence, is also 100% contained with 80% of the containment being by constructed line and 20% being by natural barriers. The western flank of the Seven Oak Fire burned up to the tree line until it ran out of vegetation in the rocks of the escarpment. The rocks themselves provide an adequate barrier to fire movement to be considered fully capable of providing the same, if not better, containment of the fire. The June Fire was fully contained on Wednesday evening.The Inyo Complex, with a final acreage of 35,176 acres, still has 95 people assigned to it, and the June Fire with a final acreage of 682 acres has 213 people committed to it. The June Fire, which burned north of the June Lake Junction on both sides of US 395, was ignited by lightning on Tuesday July 10. 176 people remain assigned to the June Fire and tonight they are engaged in mop up activities to ensure that the containment lines will hold. Closures remain in the Oak Creek Canyon area including Oak Creek Canyon Road, which is closed at US 395. Oak Creek Campground, which was burned over by the Seven Oak Fire, is closed. All other area campgrounds are now open. All trailheads are now open except Sawmill Pass and Baxter Pass. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling through or being on any roads in or near the fire area as equipment and personnel are still working. Rocks and debris rolling down onto roadways can be a problem and visitors are urged to use extreme caution when driving, bicycling, or hiking in the fire areas. The Firefighters were part of two engines that had been assisting the public in evacuating the Seven Oaks Fire area, when extreme fire behavior forced them to deploy their fire shelters. The Glacier Road, providing access to the campgrounds, cabins, and trailheads of Big Pine Canyon, as well as Glacier Lodge and Glacier Pack Trains, reopened at 10:00 am Tuesday morning. Onion Valley Road was also reopened to Upper and Lower Grays Meadow Campgrounds and Seven Pines recreation residence tract. The rest of the road up to Onion Valley may open as early as Tuesday evening. The Baxter Pass and Oak Creek roads will remain closed until further notice due to fire activity in the area.Wilderness permits are now being issued for the trailheads at Shepherd Pass and in Big Pine Canyon.
