An initial assessment was done and National Park Service firefighters began to immediately contain this fire. The fire grew in spite of firefighter efforts to stop this fire from burning in extremely steep terrain and heavy fuels at an elevation of approximately 6,000 to 7,000 feet. On September 16, management of the fire was transferred to an interagency incident management team. After reaching their goal of containment using indirect fire fighting methods to strengthen the perimeter and suppress spot fires, the fire was then returned to the National Park Service under a smaller incident command team on September 24. This team was responsible to further secure the fire line, begin mop up, patrol and rehabilitate areas..."

"Fire Fighters Closing in on Containment (Hidden Wildland Fire)"

"Firefighters Closing in on Containment of the Hidden Fire Friday's operations along the northwest and western flanks strengthened the holding lines on the Hidden Fire. As the fuels that are adjacent to the line burnout and cool the possibility of spot fires will diminish. The fire is 94% contained and full containment is anticipated by September 30, 2008. The fire is visible from nearby communities including Three Rivers, Lemon Cove, and Badger. Smoke may be present in some areas within the park. In order to minimize impacts from smoke please: · Close windows, especially at night when air tends to settle. · Use the recirculation option in your car to prevent smoke from entering the vehicle. · Avoid prolonged exertion in heavy smoke especially if you are sensitive to smoke impact. This transition was made possible as the Southern California IMT reached their objectives. They contained the fire at 3,693 acres while attaining an exemplary safety record with only two injuries. The primary goal for the new team is to maintain an excellent safety record and provide for firefighter and public safety. The fire which is in steep terrain with heavy fuels will continue to burn in the interior. The new team will continue to strengthen control lines, patrol, mop-up, and rehabilitate areas affected by suppression actions. Although the fire is contained it remains active in the interior. The fire is visible from nearby communities including Three Rivers, Lemon Cove, and Badger. Heavy smoke may be present in some areas within the park. Fire managers anticipated further growth yesterday because of hot dry conditions. A red flag warning was forecast for low relative humidity. This fire was ignited by a lightning strike on the evening of September 10. The fire continued to show spotting and control issues on the northeast flank. The southern flank showed backing into Yucca Creek. The western flank is holding. Cooler temperatures and higher relative humidity are forecasted that may help firefighting efforts. The parks briefed the incoming team and plan to transition management of the fire this afternoon. Approximately 115 firefighters are on this fire, including the fire management team. Five helicopters and five air tankers are also assigned to the fire to support ground operations. Spotting and roll-outs are creating control issues on the north and east flank. The west and south flanks are currently holding. The fire is approximately 20% contained. This fire is burning in..."

"Hidden Fire Meeting Planned (Hidden Wildland Fire)"

"A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 17th at the Veterans Memorial Building in Three Rivers from 7:00 -8:30 pm. It is 296 acres as of Sunday evening. Initial attack operations are continuing. This fire was ignited by a lightning strike on the evening of September 10. Firefighting efforts will be hampered by red flag conditions forecasted for today. Relative humidities into the single digits are predicted that will lead to increased fire behavior. Fire managers anticipate continued growth on the fire today because of this. The parks have ordered an outside fire management team since the fire has now grown beyond the parks' local firefighting capability. They are anticipated to arrive this evening to will oversee management of the fire starting tomorrow. Forty-five firefighters are on this fire with four additional crews ordered.
