An engine crew will continue to patrol the canyon through Sunday, August 17th and extinguish any hotspots that exist near the fireline. The fire will then be monitored by air at least once a week until declared out. The lightning caused Little Bald Mountain fire located in South Willow Canyon in the Stansbury Mountains near Grantsville was accurately mapped at 502 acres and is 95% contained. Smoke may be visible by individuals as they recreate in the area until the fire receives significant moisture and can be declared out. Box Elder, North Willow and South Willow Canyons including Upper and Lower Narrow campgrounds and Loop campground are open as of noon, August 12, 2008. The lightning-caused fire began yesterday and is burning in heavy timber, and steep, rocky terrain. Four 20-person crews, three helicopters, and engines from the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management are currently assigned to the Little Bald Mountain fire. The road, campgrounds, and trail heads in South Willow Canyon are closed for public safety and to allow access for fire suppression equipment. The wildfire is currently threatening the campgrounds in the upper part of the canyon. The nearest residences are 2 1/2 miles from the fire and are not threatened. Full containment of the fire is not expected for 15 to 20 days, primarily due to the steep, rugged and inaccessible terrain on the west flank of the fire. However, natural barriers exist that will prevent fire spread to the north, west, and south. The fire is located in South Willow Canyon in the Stansbury Mountains near Grantsville. Yesterday, the fire continued to creep and smolder into the Deseret Peak Wilderness. The fire crews made excellent progress on the fire due to their hard work and cooler tempatures. The fire is located in South Willow Canyon in the Stansbury Mountains near Grantsville. .Yesterday, the fire slowly continued to back down hill towards the South Willow Canyon road and continued to smolder in brush and under story with single tree torching. Today, Mike Wilde&#39;s Type 2 Incident Management Team is assisting with the management of the fire.
