Probable Cause: LightningTom Heintz&#39;s Type 2 Northern Rockies Incident Management Team has been assigned to manage the fire. The information number for the incident is 406-328 4958, and 406-328 4959.Location: Near Tumble Creek, in the West Fork of the Stillwater River drainage approximately 8 miles west of Woodbine Campground, and one mile south of the Absaroka/Beartooth Wilderness boundary. Today clear, dry and calm conditions throughout the morning changed as a monsoonal moisture pattern arrived mid-afternoon. Increased cloud cover caused the fire to be fairly inactive with smoldering, creeping and occasinal single tree touching fire behavior. The winds today were south east at seven miles per hour. Temperatures were 82 with relative humidity at 23%. Three type 1 crews are on the fire and spiked out. Potential for fire growth is medium and the difficulty of the terrain is extreme. Cause: LightningLocation: Near Tumble Creek, in the West Fork of the Stillwater River drainage approximately 8 miles west of Woodbine Campground, and one mile south of the Absaroka/Beartooth Wilderness boundary. The fire had minimal movement on the east and possible movement on the west and north with predicted weather. The weather yesterday was 12mph from the west with temperature at 70 and relative humidity at 26%. There will be a Public meeting tonight in the Fire Hall in Nye at 6:00 p.m. Fire personnel will be available to share fire information and answer questions.Personnel: 103 personnel are currently assigned to the fire. Three heavy helicopters dropped 58,000 gallons of water on the fire. Air tankers flew many loads of retardant the fire as well. There are two crews, 1 helicopter and 1water tender assigned to the fire. The fire is 4 miles from the Stillwater Mine. There will be a Public meeting at the Fire Hall in Nye at 6:00 p.m. on August 5. They were supported today by water and retardant drops from airtankers, and three heavy helicopters. A rappel crew was utilized to open up a helispot.
