If future information is needed on these fires, please contact the Mt. Tolman Fire Center at 509-634-3100. The Inchelium community and the fire and natural resource professionals from The Confederated Tribes of the Colville have been warm and gracious hosts to our team and the firefighters who have come from across the region. We appreciate all the support we have received from the hosting agencies and the community, and extend our wishes for a safe summer. YESTERDAY'S FIRE ACTIVITY: Crews combed the fire perimeters to locate any remaining hot spots. Hand held infrared scanners (Palm IRs) were used again to help locate areas of heat otherwise undetectable. On both fires, hoses and equipment that were used during the fire suppression activities and are no longer needed were carried to roads to be easily picked up by..."

"Thursday, July 17 Daily Fire Update (Abraham Canyon Wildland Fire)"

"Both the Abraham Canyon Fire and the Wilmont Fire were declared 100% contained Tuesday evening.YESTERDAY'S FIRE ACTIVITY: Fire activity was very quiet, stump holes and concentrations of dead and down material in the interior of the fires remain smoking. Abraham Canyon: Three crews and seven engines worked to mop up 200 feet inside the fire perimeter. As that was completed, they worked farther interior to locate and extinguish all significant hot spots. The Tribal Burned Area Emergency Rehabilitation Team (BAER team) began rehabilitation work on the access roads, removing the berms and installing water bars. Abraham Canyon: Two crews and six engines worked to mop up 200 feet inside the fire perimeter. Additional mop up was completed to allow the power crews to restore power to the Elbow Lake Road home on Wednesday. A Tribal Burned Area Emergency Rehabilitation Team (BAER team) completed assessments of the fire area on Tribal lands, and equipment will start road rehabilitation efforts on Wednesday. We will track these fires individually. YESTERDAY'S FIRE ACTIVITY: As of 6:00pm Monday the Abraham Canyon Fire was 95% contained. Full containment was not reached today because about half of the resources were sent to assist with the Wilmont fire. Three hand crews, four engines and two dozers remained on the Abraham Canyon Fire completing and securing fire lines. Power line crews restored power by 5:00pm to the homes along Hall Creek Road. Power should be restored to the one home on the Elbow Lake Road by Wednesday.Three hand crews and overhead from Abraham Canyon Fire were assigned to the Wilmont fire to assist the local agency personnel who remained responsible for suppression actions for the day. The Wilmont fire, which is estimated to be 149 acres, was stopped by the fast and efficient work of all the assigned ground personnel and..."

"July 14 Monday Daily Update (Abraham Canyon Wildland Fire)"

"YESTERDAY'S FIRE ACTIVITY: The winds that were expected for the afternoon and early evening materialized but caused little increased fire activity, so the acreage remains unchanged. This allowed firefighters to make excellent progress toward containment, working late into the evening constructing fire line directly next to the fire's edge. The fire is now estimated to be 85% contained with expected full containment by Tuesday morning. Crews also made excellent progress with mop up operations along major portions of the fire lines. One area of concentrated mop up effort is the area along the downed power lines. Once this area has been extinguished Avista crews can repair and restore power to homeowners left in the dark since last Thursday. About 10 homeowners remain without power in the Hall Creek/Elbow Lake Road areas. Early in the evening a new fire start was reported to Mt. Tolman fire center. It is located in the Wilmont Creek drainage. A dozer was dispatched from this fire..."

"June 13, 2008 Sunday Daily Update (Abraham Canyon Wildland Fire)"

"YESTERDAY'S FIRE ACTIVITY: Late in the afternoon, fire activity increased in two areas within the indirect containment lines. At the north west corner of the fire, several water drops from a Type 3 helicopter (available from Mt. Tolman) helped to cool the flare-up in the heavily timbered area. On the portion of the east line where unburned fuel remained between the fire and the dozer line, crews and dozers worked in conjunction with helicopter water drops to create a new direct fire line. The burned area grew just under 100 acres with this additional fire activity; the total size was 372 acres as of late Saturday evening. Additional crews arrived to join other fire personnel operating from the Incident Command Post located at the Inchelium Community Center. At this time, just over 50% of the burned area is on tribal land, and just under half is on private land protected by Washington's Department of Natural Resources. Therefore, the fire management strategy was developed with..."

"July 12, 2008 Daily Fire Update - Saturday (Abraham Canyon Wildland Fire)"

"Resources continue to arrive today to assist with the suppression of the Abraham Canyon Fire, located approximately 6 miles northwest of Inchelium, on the east side of the Colville Reservation. Local resources successfully suppressed many of the fires that started from downed power lines after a severe wind event on Thursday July 10th. The number of fires since June 30th has kept local resources very busy, and this fire requires more staff to fully contain than are available locally.Firelines have been created by dozers where possible, but much of this is "indirect" fire line - it is not located directly adjacent to the fire. New control lines will have to be completed directly adjacent to the fire edges before it is considered contained. The fire has not spread significantly since the initial wind-driven movement on July 10th.Washington's Interagency Incident Management Team 1 is assigned to coordinate the efforts on this fire, to achieve the objectives outlined by the..."
