Information will still be available on these fires, but it will be provided by the Iron Complex. There was very little activity on the Granite fire yesterday. The southern portions of the fire look good and the lines are holding. Containment on the Granite has increased to 80% percent. On the Carey Fire, firefighters were able to clear a new access route for crews and pack strings on the New River trail. The New River Trail will provide a shorter and less strenuous route for both crews and pack strings. The smokejumpers that were working on the north side of the Carey Fire hiked out yesterday and a new crew will be going in today.Planned Actions: Both fires are within the Trinity Alps wilderness. The crews working on the Granite and Carey fires continue to using Minimum Impact Suppression Techniques..."

"Alps Complex Update July 8, 2008 (Alps Complex Wildland Fire)"

"Trinity Alps WildernessCurrent Fire Situation: The Granite and Carey fires within the Alps Complex will be more active today with temperatures rising and the humidity decreasing. Concerns with the north end of the Granite Fire remain as the fire made a short run and consumed another 20 acres. Containment on the Granite is holding at 75 percent. Crews worked hard today hiking 14 miles into the Carey fire. After reviewing options and safety practices, the incident management team decided to choose another access route to the south of the Carey fire which isn't as rigorous or exhausting. Before the New River trail can be used it will have to be cleared of numerous dead and down trees to provide access not only for crews but for supply pack strings. Planned Actions: Both fires are within the Trinity Alps wilderness. The crews working on the Granite and Carey fires continue to using Minimum Impact Suppression Techniques (MIST). Today, Crews on the Granite Fire will continue to secure..."

"Alps Complex Update July 7, 2008 (Alps Complex Wildland Fire)"

"Trinity Alps WildernessCurrent Fire Situation: The Granite and Carey fires remain the priority fires within the Alps Complex. The fires could be more active today with temperatures rising and the humidity decreasing. Even though crews have increased the containment on the Granite fire to 75% there are still some concerns with the north end of the fire and crews will be monitoring the burning islands within the interior of the fire. Crews made good progress on the Carey Fire increasing the containment from 5% to 25%. Planned Actions: Both the Granite and Carey fires are within the Trinity Alps wilderness and crews working on these fires are using Minimum Impact Suppression Techniques (MIST). MIST is the concept that the actions taken in putting the fire out are the minimum necessary to actually control the edge of the fire. Where possible, crews use natural fuel breaks like rock slides and streams and as on the Granite Fire existing trail systems as containment lines. MIST is basically..."

"Alps Complex Update July 6, 2008 (Alps Complex Wildland Fire)"

"Alps Complex Trinity Alps WildernessJuly 6, 2008Current Fire Situation: The Granite and Carey fires remain the priority fires within the Alps Complex. Yesterday the smoke cleared enough so that a helicopter with a bucket was able to drop water to assist the crews on the Carey Fire. The Carey Fire is 17 miles fromthe trailhead so crews working the fire will camp in a meadow close to fire. Crews will be re-supplied by pack string daily. On th516-acre Granite Fire crews continue to make good progress. Planned Actions: Crews have the Granite Fire 62% contained and crews will be working today to further their containment and to ensure that they can hold the existing line. Rolling logs and debris and burning snags falling across the line are a challenge. Crews will continue with suppression efforts on the Carey Fire today. Weather: Weather today should be mostly sunny and breezy with temperatures ranging from the mid to high 80s on the Granite Fire and closer to 90 on the Carey fire. Yesterday, the smoke cleared enough so that 8 smokejumpers were able to jump the Carey fire. The jumpers will supplement crews that have been able to hike in to the Fire. Crews continue to make good progress on the 516-acre Granite fire though rolling logs and debris and burning snags falling across the line continue to be a challenge.Planned Actions: On the Granite fire there is still a high potential for roll-out, but the fire has moved into lighter fuels in the higher elevations slowing the fire progress. Crews have the Granite Fire 50% contained and they will continue to work towards obtaining full containment by July 10th. Additional firefighters will hike in to the Carey fire today increasing the personnel on that fire to 39. Today may be the last day, for awhile, that the air will clear enough to utilize..."

"Alps Complex Update July 4, 2008 (Alps Complex Wildland Fire)"

"Update No. FS-070408-01 July 4, 2008Alps Complex Happy Fourth of July!Current Fire Situation: The Buckhorn and Clem fires have been transferred to the Iron Complex because of their proximity to the Ironside fire and availability of Iron Complex suppression resources. This results in lower acreage for the Alps Complex. The Alps Complex retains eleven fires in the Alps Trinity Wilderness. The Granite and Carey fires remain the priority for management. Yesterday, the Kings Peak crew was able to clear the trail into the Carey Fire and to provide an on-the-ground evaluation. The Granite Fire continues to be held from moving west across Canyon Creek and crews have made significant progress in the Bear Creek drainage on thesoutheast flank of the fire. Planned Actions: Today, crews on the Granite Fire will continue to hold the fire along Canyon Creek. The Kings Peak crew will improve the trail access and begin suppression actions on the Carey Fire. With the Granite Fire moving toward full..."
