Aircraft, set up with special heat-detecting, infra-red equipment conducted aerial reconnaissance, finding only some minor amounts of heat adjacent to the fire lines. Extensive mop-up and patrol operations are underway to locate and douse any residual "hold overs" of heat. With the current resources and the predicted weather, the Corral Fire is anticipated to be one-hundred percent "corraled" (contained) by Monday evening, July 7.Meanwhile, a rehabilitation group of resource specialists from the BLM and the Forest Service are busily repairing dozer lines, building water bars to prevent erosion, watering access roads, and, evaluating whether or not additional restoration work may be needed. Firefighters continued to press forward extending and reinforcing containment lines as well as searching out and extinguishing "hot spots." Some minor smoldering and creeping fire was observed in a few sections of the Corral Fire. A rehabilitation group began fire suppression repair work on the interior dozer lines and temporary access roads around the cooler parts of the fire. A substantial amount of equipment, e.g. water hose, portable water tanks, is scattered throughout the fire area; crews started to haul miscellaneous gear to designated locations for transport. Larsen's Northern Rockies National Incident Management Team began to coordinate with officials from the CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit on a plan to turn the Corral Fire back to the local unit. Today's Planned Events: Mop-up and/or patrol will carry on throughout all sections of the Corral Fire. Crews will grind..."

"Corral Fire 55% Contained (Corral Wildland Fire)"

"Yesterday, winds were gusty at about 20 mph in the afternoon with a slight increase in humidity at the fire area at 18%. This gave firefighters another day of being able to see areas of undetected hot spots and react to extinguish them before they grow. Fire activity in the Northwestern perimeter of the fire was mainly this "spotting" ahead of the main fire and no large torching or running movement of the fire. Firefighters made good progress on the required work of cooling further into the "black" from the suppression lines to strengthen those lines from any wind driven fire jumping the lines. It is a necessity on these fires to continue this type of work and obtain eventual control. Air resources assigned to the Corral fire once again were shared with crews responding to initial attack fires in the area. Today's Planned Events: All portions of the fire perimeter will be in a patrol, mop-up, or interior work once again. It is truly the "phase of any fire,..."

"Windy Weather Will Test Firefighters (Corral Wildland Fire)"

"Firefighters made measurable progress in all divisions of the Corral Fire yesterday, holding and reinforcing lines and, with support from helicopters in the air and engines on the ground, were able to get more water to hot spots to aid in mop-up. Areas of greatest concern are the northern and southern perimeters - each impacted by prevailing winds and each with a considerable amount of unburned fuels. The Corral Fire is now 40% contained.A helicopter from the Corral Fire assisted the California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection with initial attack on two new fires.A continuing challenge for the fire suppression effort is the tendency for spotting - throwing embers out in front of the fire outside of the fire lines and establishing new fires. This is common in Ponderosa pine fuel types. Engines patrolling the perimeter have been instrumental in quickly extinguishing new spot fires as they arise.Incident Commander Dave Larsen reminded firefighters of the importance of..."

"Firefighters Make Steady Progress (Corral Wildland Fire)"

"The predicted "red flag" weather conditions did not materialize yesterday, allowing firefighters to make significant progress in all divisions of the Corral Fire. Though winds were slightly higher than they have been the past, few days, they actually helped to fan small, subtle areas of heat just beneath the ground's surface - "hot spots" - so that crews could more easily detect and extinguish them. Interior areas of the fire with heavier fuels experienced some minor surface fire movement. Fire crews continued to expand, hold, and/or strengthen lines. With support from both helicopters and engines, firefighters were able to broaden mop-up operations along much of the existing control lines. CAL FIRE, BLM, and Forest Service officials began to work on a coordinated, suppression rehabilitation plan for the fire area. Today, plans call for crews to continue their steady press forward to contain the fire's remaining, uncontrolled perimeter. All divisions of the..."

"Corral Fire 25% Contained (Corral Wildland Fire)"

"Yesterday's Fire Activities: Northerly winds aided fire suppression efforts along the Corral Fire's northern perimeter, enabling firefighters to make significant gains, extending and reinforcing firelines. However, these same winds tested containment lines along the southeast portion of the fire, causing small spot fires outside the lines. Helicopter bucket drops greatly helped to check the fire's wind-driven advance, allowing fire crews to directly attack the blaze. The Corral Fire continued to actively burn in some areas, especially in heavy fuels and thick timber, spurred by erratic, afternoon winds. In general, the Corral Fire is moving in a northerly direction, with fire growth occurring along its uncontained perimeter. Today's Planned Events: Firefighters will concentrate on two fronts of the Corral Fire - holding and reinforcing the southern flank of the fire; and, expanding the containment line along the fire's ragged, northern edge. Engines will continue..."

"Fire Update 7/01/08 (Corral Wildland Fire)"

"Yesterday's Fire Activities: A Northern Rockies Incident Management Team assumed command of the Corral Fire at 0800 yesterday (6/29) morning, led by Incident Commander Dave Larsen. The Corral Fire burned actively yesterday, and firefighters continue to be challenged by spotting, as embers from the main fire are landing outside of the fire lines, making it difficult to hold the existing perimeter. Fire behavior intensifies in the heat of mid- to late afternoon, increasing the potential for fire spread and resistance to control. In general, the Corral fire is moving northeast, with perimeter expansion along uncontained lines, and in the area of Long Reservoir. Today's (7/01/08) Planned Events: Firefighters will continue work to reinforce the southern perimeter of the fire, while working along the east and western flanks. Engines are providing the main water support for cooling the perimeter due to the unavailability of hand crews. Bulldozers have constructed fire line around much..."
